Overview
This Chinese herbal preparation is a combination of *Radix Polygoni Multiflori* (He Shou Wu) and *Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae* (Danshen). It has been investigated by researchers at Monash University for its potential to mitigate cardiovascular disease risk, particularly in patients with hyperlipidemia. The preparation works through a multi-target approach: *Radix Polygoni Multiflori* contains stilbene glycosides like 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside (TSG), which inhibits HMG-CoA reductase and acts as a potent antioxidant. *Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae* contributes tanshinones and salvianolic acids, which inhibit platelet aggregation (via COX-1 inhibition) and improve microcirculation. Clinical trials have focused on the preparation's ability to improve lipid profiles, reduce oxidative stress markers, and enhance vascular function.
