Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Raltegravir + calcium carbonate refers to a clinical study regimen evaluated by the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute to determine the pharmacokinetic impact of antacid administration on the HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) raltegravir. Raltegravir (Isentress) prevents the covalent insertion of HIV-1 DNA into the host cell genome, a critical step in the viral replication cycle. Because raltegravir absorption can be affected by gastric pH and polyvalent cations, this Phase 4 study specifically examines how different doses of oral calcium carbonate (500 mg and 1000 mg) influence the steady-state serum concentrations of a 1200 mg once-daily raltegravir dose in adults living with HIV.
