Overview

Raltegravir + etravirine is a combination of two antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, particularly in patients with multidrug-resistant HIV or those requiring salvage therapy. Raltegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor that blocks the action of HIV integrase, preventing integration of viral DNA into the host genome and thereby inhibiting viral replication[1][8]. Etravirine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that directly inhibits HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, blocking both DNA-dependent and RNA-dependent polymerase activity essential for viral replication[6]. This combination may be used as part of a multi-drug regimen for heavily treatment-experienced patients to achieve and maintain viral suppression[5].
