Overview

This refers to the **co-administration of raltegravir with one or more other antiretroviral drugs that are not raltegravir**. Raltegravir is a first-in-class HIV integrase inhibitor that blocks the HIV integrase enzyme, preventing viral DNA integration into the host genome. As standard in HIV therapy, raltegravir is never used alone but always combined with other antiretroviral agents, which may include nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), protease inhibitors (PIs), entry inhibitors, or other integrase inhibitors (but not another raltegravir). This combination is used to **slow the progression of HIV infection, achieve and maintain viral suppression, and reduce the risk of AIDS-related complications**[1][3][5].
