Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ramelteon + gabapentin is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Ramelteon is a selective melatonin receptor agonist that acts primarily at the MT1 and MT2 receptors in the brain's suprachiasmatic nucleus, promoting sleep by regulating circadian rhythms[4][6]. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain agent that modulates voltage-gated calcium channels to reduce excitatory neurotransmitter release. When used together, these agents may have additive central nervous system depressant effects, increasing risks such as sedation, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and impaired psychomotor skills[1][2][3]. This combination does not represent a fixed-dose product but rather concurrent use of two approved medications for their respective indications.
