This is a combination regimen composed of **ramucirumab** (a monoclonal antibody), **gemcitabine** (a nucleoside analog antimetabolite), and **carboplatin** (a platinum-based chemotherapy). Ramucirumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and antagonizes **vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2)**, inhibiting angiogenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis. Gemcitabine interferes with DNA synthesis by incorporation into DNA, resulting in apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells. Carboplatin induces cross-linking of DNA, which triggers cell death. Each of these agents has broad antitumor activity, and their combination is studied or used in several solid tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other advanced malignancies. There is evidence of ramucirumab combined with platinum agents and gemcitabine in NSCLC and potentially in other advanced cancers, mostly in the experimental setting.
