This combination therapy, often referred to as triple therapy, is an investigational regimen for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and choroidal neovascularization (CNV). It was notably investigated by researchers at the University of Udine to address the limitations of monotherapy. The regimen consists of three components with distinct mechanisms: **ranibizumab**, a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) to reduce vascular leakage and angiogenesis; **triamcinolone acetonide**, a synthetic corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory effects and stabilizes the blood-retinal barrier; and **verteporfin**, a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) to selectively occlude neovascular vessels through the generation of reactive oxygen species upon light activation. The goal of this combined approach is to improve visual outcomes and reduce the frequency of intravitreal injections required for disease management.
