This is a combination of two drugs: rapamycin (also known as sirolimus), an mTOR inhibitor and immunosuppressant, and roxadustat, a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI). Rapamycin inhibits the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which plays a key role in cell growth, proliferation, and immune response. Roxadustat stabilizes hypoxia-inducible factors by inhibiting their degradation, leading to increased erythropoietin production and improved red blood cell formation. This combination has been explored for synergistic effects in conditions such as pure red cell aplasia with kidney injury—where it may help manage anemia while modulating immune function—and in preclinical models related to bone metabolism[1][3]. Roxadustat is approved for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease[4][5].
