Rasagiline + levodopa is a combination therapy used in the management of Parkinson's disease. Rasagiline is an irreversible, selective monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, thereby increasing and prolonging dopamine activity. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine, supplementing deficient levels in patients with Parkinson's disease. When used together, rasagiline enhances and prolongs the effects of levodopa by reducing its metabolism, leading to improved control of motor symptoms such as rigidity, tremors, and bradykinesia. This combination is indicated for both early-stage monotherapy (rasagiline alone) or as adjunct therapy with levodopa in more advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease[1][4][5][8].
