Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rauvolfia + Citrus decoction (also known as RC tea) is an investigational herbal combination product prepared from the foliage of *Rauvolfia vomitoria* Afzel. and the fruits of *Citrus aurantium* L. Originating as a traditional remedy in northern Edo state, Nigeria, the decoction is being evaluated for its anti-diabetic properties, specifically for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Clinical research, including a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at Frederiksberg University Hospital in Denmark, has indicated that the decoction can improve glycemic control, normalize blood glucose levels, and reduce ectopic lipid accumulation. Its biological mechanism is hypothesized to involve metabolic pathways that overlap with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) signaling, although the specific active constituents remain a complex mixture of small molecules derived from both plant sources.
