Overview

AD173 is an investigational oral combination therapy consisting of reboxetine, a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI), and oxybutynin, an anticholinergic agent. Developed by researchers at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health (AISH) at Flinders University, the combination is designed to treat obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) by targeting the underlying neuromuscular and physiological causes of the condition. Reboxetine is intended to increase the activity of the upper airway dilator muscles (such as the genioglossus) during sleep, while oxybutynin acts to stabilize breathing and increase the respiratory arousal threshold, reducing the frequency of awakenings caused by respiratory events. Clinical studies conducted at Flinders University have evaluated the efficacy of AD173 in improving sleep efficiency and reducing the severity of OSA symptoms.
