Overview

Recaticimab + statin refers to the combination therapy of recaticimab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), with a statin (a class of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). Recaticimab binds circulating PCSK9, preventing its interaction with LDL receptors (LDLR) on hepatocytes. This increases the number of LDLRs available to clear low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. Statins lower cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis and upregulating LDLR expression. The combination is used in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia who do not achieve target LDL-C levels on moderate or high-intensity statins alone. Clinical trials have shown that adding recaticimab to stable statin therapy results in robust and sustained reductions in LDL-C and other atherogenic lipids, with an extended dosing interval for recaticimab of up to every 12 weeks[1][2][4][6].
