Recaticimab + statin refers to the combination therapy of recaticimab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), with a statin (a class of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). Recaticimab binds circulating PCSK9, preventing its interaction with LDL receptors (LDLR) on hepatocytes. This increases the number of LDLRs available to clear low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. Statins lower cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis and upregulating LDLR expression.
