Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Recombinant COVID-19 (XBB.1.5) Trimeric Protein Vaccine is a monovalent protein subunit vaccine developed by WestVac BioPharma (China West) in collaboration with West China Medical Center, Sichuan University. It is designed to provide protection against the SARS-CoV-2 XBB.1.5 variant by utilizing a trimeric spike (S) protein antigen produced in Sf9 insect cells via a baculovirus expression system. Formulated with a novel adjuvant, the vaccine aims to induce robust neutralizing antibody and T-cell responses. In June 2023, it became the first XBB-specific vaccine to receive Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in China, primarily for use as a booster dose to address the immune escape of XBB subvariants.
