Overview
Ad5-EBOV is a recombinant, replication-defective adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector-based vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology (part of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences). It is designed to express the envelope glycoprotein of the Zaire ebolavirus (specifically the 2014 Makona strain) to elicit protective humoral and cellular immune responses. Approved in China in October 2017 for emergency use and national stockpiling, Ad5-EBOV is notable for its lyophilized (freeze-dried) formulation, which allows for stable storage at 2°C to 8°C, making it highly suitable for deployment in regions with limited cold-chain infrastructure.
