A combination therapy consisting of recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) and human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG), also known as menotropin, used for controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as IVF and ICSI. rFSH is a recombinant protein that selectively binds to and activates the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), promoting the recruitment and growth of multiple ovarian follicles. hMG is a purified extract derived from the urine of postmenopausal women that contains both FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. The addition of hMG to rFSH protocols is intended to provide supplemental LH activity, which is essential for ovarian steroidogenesis and may improve oocyte quality and maturation in specific patient populations, including those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This specific combination was evaluated by Damascus University in a Phase 4 clinical trial comparing the effects of GnRH agonist and antagonist protocols on oocyte morphology.
