This combination therapy consists of a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine (produced in yeast) and Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIG). It is primarily used for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in neonates born to HBsAg-positive mothers. The recombinant vaccine provides active immunity by stimulating the host's immune system to produce protective antibodies against the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). Simultaneously, HBIG provides immediate passive immunity by supplying pre-formed antibodies that neutralize circulating HBV particles. This dual approach is the standard of care for post-exposure prophylaxis in infants born to infected mothers. The specific regimen evaluated by the Jiangsu Province Centers for Disease Control and Prevention involves a 10 mcg dose of the recombinant vaccine and a 200 IU dose of HBIG.
