Overview
Recombinant hepatitis E vaccine (adsorbed) is a protein subunit vaccine developed by Zydus Lifesciences for the prevention of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection. The vaccine is composed of recombinant HEV antigens, typically derived from the viral capsid protein (ORF2), which are adsorbed onto an aluminum-based adjuvant to enhance the immune response. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in India (CTRI/2022/06/043344), where it is being evaluated for safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults. Hepatitis E is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis, particularly in regions with limited access to clean water and sanitation, and this vaccine aims to provide a preventive solution against HEV genotypes.
