Overview

Recombinant herpes zoster vaccine (CHO cells) is a protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products (SIBP). It is formulated with the recombinant Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) glycoprotein E (gE) antigen, which is expressed in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells, and a proprietary adjuvant system designed to enhance immunogenicity. The vaccine aims to prevent herpes zoster (shingles) by stimulating both humoral and cellular immune responses, specifically inducing high levels of specific antibodies and CD4+ T cell responses. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in healthy individuals aged 40 years and above.
