Overview

Cecolin is a prophylactic bivalent vaccine indicated for the prevention of diseases caused by oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and/or 18. It is approved for use in women aged 9 to 45 years. The active ingredients are recombinant L1 capsid proteins of HPV type-16 and type-18, each self-assembled into virus-like particles (VLPs), produced using *Escherichia coli* expression technology. Cecolin works by inducing an immune response that prevents infection with HPV types most commonly associated with cervical cancer and its precursors. It does not treat existing infections or lesions but is highly effective at preventing new infections from these high-risk HPV types. The primary developer and manufacturer is Xiamen Innovax Biotech Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Xiamen University[2][3][5][8].
