Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The combination of recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), and methylprednisolone is a multi-modality therapeutic regimen used primarily for the emergency or frontline management of severe, refractory, or life-threatening immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). This triple combination addresses ITP through complementary mechanisms: rhTPO stimulates megakaryocytopoiesis and platelet production by binding to the thrombopoietin receptor (MPL); IVIG rapidly blocks Fc-receptor-mediated platelet clearance by splenic macrophages; and methylprednisolone, a potent glucocorticoid, suppresses the underlying autoimmune response and reduces autoantibody production. This regimen is particularly utilized in clinical scenarios requiring rapid platelet recovery, such as severe bleeding episodes, preparation for urgent surgery, gestational ITP, or immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced thrombocytopenia.
