This is a combination therapy consisting of recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) and thalidomide. Recombinant human thrombopoietin is a biologic agent that mimics endogenous thrombopoietin, the primary regulator of platelet production, by stimulating megakaryocyte proliferation and differentiation to increase platelet counts. Thalidomide is an immunomodulatory small molecule with anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory properties; it inhibits tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) production, modulates cytokine release, and affects T-cell function. This combination has been explored for hematologic disorders where both stimulation of platelet production (via rhTPO) and immunomodulation/anti-angiogenesis (via thalidomide) may be beneficial.
