recombinant protective antigen + Advax is a vaccine candidate developed by Vaxine for the prevention of anthrax infection. The vaccine is composed of a recombinant version of the Bacillus anthracis protective antigen (PA) protein formulated with Vaxine's proprietary Advax adjuvant. Advax is a delta-inulin-based adjuvant designed to enhance both cellular and humoral immune responses without inducing excessive inflammation. The primary mechanism of action involves the induction of high titers of neutralizing antibodies against the PA component of the anthrax toxin. By neutralizing PA, the vaccine prevents the assembly of the lethal toxin and edema toxin complexes and their subsequent entry into host cells, thereby neutralizing the pathogenic effects of the bacteria. It is currently in preclinical development.
