Overview

The recombinant SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CHO cell), specifically the candidate known as SCoK, is a protein subunit vaccine developed by the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with CSPC Pharmaceutical Group. The vaccine utilizes a recombinant version of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein's receptor-binding domain (RBD) as its primary antigen, which is expressed in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells. By presenting the RBD to the immune system, the vaccine aims to induce the production of neutralizing antibodies that prevent the virus from binding to the host's ACE2 receptor, thereby blocking viral entry. SCoK is typically formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity and is administered via intramuscular injection. Clinical development reached Phase 2 trials, where it demonstrated a favorable safety profile and the ability to elicit robust immune responses in both adult and elderly populations.
