LYB001 is an innovative virus-like particle (VLP)-based recombinant protein COVID-19 vaccine. It displays a repetitive array of the receptor-binding domain (RBD) from the spike glycoprotein of wild-type SARS-CoV-2 on the surface of a VLP vector, produced using Covalink plug-and-display protein binding technology. The RBD is expressed in CHO cells and conjugated to a VLP vector expressed in E. coli, then adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide adjuvant for administration. LYB001 elicits robust neutralizing antibody responses against both prototype SARS-CoV-2 and Omicron BA.4/5 variants, as well as strong T-cell responses to RBD-specific peptide pools. It has demonstrated high immunogenicity and a favorable safety profile as a heterologous booster in adults previously vaccinated with inactivated COVID vaccines[1][2][3][5][8]. Developed by Yantai Patronus Biotech, it is currently undergoing phase 2/3 clinical trials for COVID-19 prevention[6].
