This is a genetically engineered, replication-competent oncolytic virus based on the Indiana strain of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). The construct expresses two transgenes: human interferon beta (hIFNβ) and the sodium-iodide symporter (NIS). The addition of hIFNβ enhances tumor selectivity by protecting normal cells from viral cytotoxicity while promoting direct tumor cell killing, apoptosis, inhibition of angiogenesis, and immunomodulation. The NIS gene enables noninvasive imaging of viral distribution using radioisotopes and may facilitate targeted radiotherapy. This agent is under clinical investigation primarily for advanced cancers including malignant solid tumors, non-small cell lung carcinoma, and acute myeloid leukemia[1][2][7].
