Overview

Remifentanil + glycopyrrolate is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents commonly used during anesthesia. Remifentanil is an ultra-short-acting synthetic opioid analgesic that acts as a potent μ-opioid receptor agonist, providing rapid and predictable pain relief and sedation during surgical procedures. Glycopyrrolate is an anticholinergic agent that blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, reducing secretions and preventing bradycardia (slow heart rate) often associated with opioid use or vagal stimulation during anesthesia. The combination is primarily used to maintain hemodynamic stability (preventing bradycardia and hypotension) in patients undergoing general anesthesia, especially in cardiac surgery or procedures where remifentanil-induced bradycardia may be problematic[1][2][5]. Remifentanil provides analgesia while glycopyrrolate counteracts the parasympathetic effects on the heart.
