Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Remifentanil + ketamine is a drug combination used in anesthesia. This combination pairs remifentanil, a potent ultra short-acting synthetic opioid that acts as a μ-opioid receptor agonist, with ketamine, an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. The combination is particularly notable for its ability to attenuate remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia, which can occur with high-dose remifentanil administration. Ketamine helps reduce postoperative pain and morphine consumption when used alongside remifentanil-based anesthesia. The combination provides better hemodynamic stability compared to remifentanil alone or remifentanil with other agents.
