Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Repaglinide + metformin** is an oral fixed-dose antidiabetic combination comprising repaglinide, a short-acting meglitinide insulin secretagogue, and metformin, a biguanide insulin sensitizer. Repaglinide stimulates meal-associated pancreatic insulin release by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels in pancreatic beta cells, while metformin primarily reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. The combination has been developed as the tablet product **PrandiMet** for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose glycemic control is inadequate on either component alone or who are already receiving both agents. PrandiMet was approved in the United States but has since been discontinued from U.S. marketing; the components remain available separately.
