Resin infiltration + adhesive refers to a minimally invasive dental procedure that combines the use of a low-viscosity resin infiltrant with an adhesive system to treat early-stage caries (non-cavitated lesions), white spot lesions, and mild enamel hypomineralization. The technique involves applying an etching agent (often hydrochloric acid) to open microporosities in the enamel, followed by drying and application of a high-penetration resin. The infiltrant fills the porous structure of demineralized enamel or initial carious lesions and is then polymerized using light curing. This process seals the lesion from further acid attack, strengthens weakened enamel by occluding micro-pores, improves aesthetics by matching refractive indices with natural tooth structure, and prevents progression of decay without drilling or significant removal of healthy tissue. When combined with an adhesive layer (as in some protocols), it may enhance bonding strength for subsequent restorative procedures[2][3][4][6]. The most widely known commercial product for this technique is Icon.
