Overview

A combination vaccine regimen for **preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) illness, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis** using concurrent administration of a stabilized prefusion F subunit RSV vaccine (such as ABRYSVO) and a tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap, such as Adacel or Boostrix). The RSV vaccine works by inducing neutralizing antibody responses to the RSV F protein, covering RSV-A and RSV-B. The Tdap vaccine induces immune responses against tetanus toxin, diphtheria toxin, and pertussis virulence antigens (pertussis toxin, filamentous hemagglutinin, pertactin). This regimen is under investigation mainly for maternal immunization to provide neonatal protection via antibody transfer. In clinical studies, **concomitant administration was safe and delivered noninferior immune responses for RSV, tetanus, and diphtheria; immune response to pertussis antigen was lower compared to Tdap alone**[1][2]. Principal companies developing or manufacturing individual vaccines are Pfizer (for RSVpreF/ABRYSVO), GlaxoSmithKline (Boostrix), and Sanofi (Adacel).
