Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ribavirin + Xiao'er Jiebiao is a combination therapeutic regimen consisting of the broad-spectrum antiviral small molecule ribavirin and the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation Xiao'er Jiebiao Oral Liquid. Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue that acts as a replication inhibitor by broadly targeting viral RNA synthesis, specifically inhibiting RNA-directed RNA polymerase. Xiao'er Jiebiao Oral Liquid is a pediatric Chinese patent medicine used to relieve exterior syndromes, fever, and viral infections in traditional Chinese medicine practice. This combination is primarily investigated for the treatment of mild to moderate Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in pediatric patients, a condition often caused by enteroviruses such as Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) and Coxsackievirus A16 (CA16). Clinical studies, such as those led by the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, aim to evaluate whether the co-administration of these agents provides superior efficacy and safety compared to ribavirin monotherapy.
