This drug is a fixed-dose combination of four first-line antituberculosis agents—rifampicin (also known as rifampin), isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. It is used primarily for the intensive phase of tuberculosis (TB) treatment in adults and children. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action against *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*: - **Rifampicin** inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase in mycobacterial cells. - **Isoniazid** inhibits synthesis of mycolic acids essential for the bacterial cell wall. - **Pyrazinamide** disrupts membrane transport and energy production in mycobacteria. - **Ethambutol** inhibits arabinosyl transferase involved in cell wall biosynthesis. The combination aims to prevent resistance development by attacking TB bacteria through multiple mechanisms.
