Overview

**rifapentine + ethambutol** is a combination of two antimycobacterial agents used as part of multidrug regimens for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). Rifapentine, a rifamycin antibiotic, inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thereby blocking RNA synthesis and causing cell death. Ethambutol is a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits the enzyme arabinosyltransferase, which is essential for the biosynthesis of the mycobacterial cell wall component arabinogalactan, weakening the cell wall and inhibiting bacterial growth. This combination can be used in the initial intensive phase of TB treatment, often alongside other agents such as isoniazid and pyrazinamide[1][3][4][6][8].
