Overview

Rillus is a probiotic chewing tablet formulation containing a combination of viable cells (1.0 x 10^9 CFU) of *Lactobacillus plantarum*, *Streptococcus thermophilus*, and *Bifidobacterium bifidum*. Developed and investigated by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia, it is being evaluated as a live biotherapeutic product to address HIV-associated immunological non-response (immunological failure) in patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART). The product's mechanism involves restoring gut mucosal integrity, stimulating Th17 immune cell production in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), and reducing chronic gut inflammation and bacterial translocation. These actions are intended to overcome the persistent low CD4+ T cell counts observed in some HIV patients despite achieving virological suppression.
