Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Risperidone + clozapine is a combination therapy consisting of two atypical antipsychotics used primarily for the management of treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Clozapine is considered the gold standard for patients who fail to respond to other antipsychotics, but a significant portion of patients remain symptomatic. The addition of risperidone, which has a high affinity for dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, is intended to provide synergistic effects by enhancing dopaminergic blockade and improving clinical outcomes. This specific combination has been the subject of clinical investigation by the Shanghai Mental Health Center to determine the optimal augmentation strategy for patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
