Overview

Ritonavir + oseltamivir is an investigational oral combination of two antiviral small molecules. Ritonavir is a protease inhibitor originally developed for HIV treatment, acting primarily as a pharmacokinetic enhancer by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), thereby increasing the plasma concentration of co-administered drugs. Oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor approved for the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza A and B; it blocks viral neuraminidase, preventing release of new virions from infected cells. The combination has been studied in clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19, aiming to leverage potential synergistic or additive antiviral effects against SARS-CoV-2[3]. There are no approved brand names or fixed-dose products containing only these two agents together.
