rivaroxaban + atorvastatin

This combination therapy consists of the direct oral anticoagulant rivaroxaban and the high-intensity statin atorvastatin. It is being investigated by NYU Langone Health for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients who have experienced Myocardial Injury after Noncardiac Surgery (MINS). Rivaroxaban functions as a highly selective inhibitor of Factor Xa, interrupting the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways of the blood coagulation cascade to prevent thrombin formation. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that lowers plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels while providing pleiotropic effects such as plaque stabilization and anti-inflammatory benefits. The dual-pathway approach aims to mitigate the heightened thrombotic and atherosclerotic risks observed in the post-operative period following noncardiac surgery.
