Rizatriptan + naproxen is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches. Rizatriptan is a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist (triptan) that works by causing vasoconstriction of intracranial blood vessels and inhibiting nociceptive neurotransmission in trigeminal pain pathways, thereby relieving migraine symptoms[1][3][5]. Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects[6]. The combination targets both the vascular and inflammatory components of migraine pathophysiology. This dual mechanism may offer enhanced efficacy compared to either agent alone for some patients.
