Overview
KP2011 is a repositioned small molecule formulation of ropinirole, a non-ergoline dopamine agonist, being developed by K Pharma for the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Originally approved for Parkinson's disease and Restless Legs Syndrome, ropinirole was identified as a potential ALS therapeutic through phenotypic screening using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The drug is believed to exert neuroprotective effects in ALS by reducing the accumulation of misfolded proteins, such as TDP-43, and mitigating oxidative stress in motor neurons. K Pharma has completed a physician-led Phase 1/2a trial (the ROPALS trial) and is currently preparing for Phase 3 clinical development.
