Ropinirole + levodopa is a combination therapy used in the management of Parkinson's disease, particularly in patients experiencing motor fluctuations. Ropinirole is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist that acts primarily on dopamine D2 receptor, mimicking the effects of dopamine and stimulating dopaminergic pathways in the brain[1][3][5]. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine by aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase, thereby replenishing depleted levels of this neurotransmitter in Parkinson's disease[6]. The combination allows for improved control of motor symptoms and may reduce required doses of levodopa, potentially minimizing long-term complications such as dyskinesias[4][5]. Ropinirole was developed by GlaxoSmithKline. Levodopa has been developed and manufactured by various companies over time.
