This combination therapy consists of rosuvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), and celecoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor. It was investigated by the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center for the treatment and prevention of acute lung injury (ALI) following blunt thoracic trauma and lung contusion. The rationale for this combination is to leverage the pleiotropic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of statins alongside the prostaglandin-inhibiting effects of COX-2 inhibitors to synergistically reduce the inflammatory burden and pulmonary damage associated with chest trauma. In clinical trial settings, the therapy was administered orally to evaluate its efficacy in reducing clinical parameters of ALI and inflammatory mediator levels in the serum and bronchoalveolar space.
