Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rotavirus multi-antigen vaccine (Symvivo) is an investigational DNA vaccine being developed by Symvivo for the prevention of rotavirus infections. The vaccine utilizes Symvivo's proprietary **bacTRL™** platform, which employs engineered probiotic bacteria (*Bifidobacterium longum*) to deliver plasmid DNA encoding multiple rotavirus antigens directly to the patient's cells. This bacterial-mediated gene delivery system is designed for both oral and intravenous administration. Once the plasmid is delivered, the patient's own cells express the viral antigens, potentially eliciting a robust and protective mucosal and systemic immune response. This approach aims to overcome the stability and safety limitations associated with traditional live-attenuated rotavirus vaccines.
