Overview
Rotavirus vaccine, live, pentavalent is an oral vaccine indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and children. It contains five live human-bovine reassortant rotavirus strains (G1P7[5], G2P7[5], G3P7[5], G4P7[5], and G6P1A[8]) designed to protect against the most common types of rotavirus that cause severe diarrhea in young children. The vaccine works by exposing the immune system to weakened forms of these viruses, stimulating immunity without causing disease. Developed by Merck, it is administered as a three-dose series between 6 and 32 weeks of age. Its primary indication is the prevention of severe gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus infection in infants and young children[1][3][6].
