ROTAVAC 5D is a monovalent, live attenuated oral vaccine containing the naturally attenuated human-bovine reassortant rotavirus strain 116E (G9P), prepared in Vero cells. It is indicated for the prevention of gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus infection in infants and young children. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against rotavirus without causing disease, thereby providing protection against severe diarrhea due to natural infection. ROTAVAC 5D is administered as a three-dose regimen starting at six weeks of age, with doses given four weeks apart. Developed and manufactured by Bharat Biotech, it features a low-volume liquid formulation that does not require buffer and can be stored at standard refrigeration temperatures (2–8°C), facilitating easier logistics and cold chain management[1][2][4][5].
