Overview

RRx‑001 is a novel small molecule with multiple mechanisms of action, including inhibition of the NLRP3 inflammasome, induction of Nrf2 via KEAP1 inhibition, and downregulation of NF‑κB. It also acts as a radiosensitizer by increasing tumor blood flow and oxygenation through nitric oxide release under hypoxic conditions. RRx‑001 is being developed primarily for use in combination with chemoradiation to prevent or reduce severe oral mucositis in head and neck cancer and has been studied in combination with temozolomide and radiation therapy for newly diagnosed glioblastoma. The drug is systemically distributed due to its small size and can cross the blood-brain barrier. EpicentRx is the primary developer[1][4][5][6][8].
