Abrysvo + Beyfortus refers to a hybrid immunization strategy for the prevention of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in infants. Abrysvo (RSVpreF) is a bivalent recombinant protein subunit vaccine administered to pregnant individuals between 28 and 36 weeks of gestation to provide passive immunity to the neonate via transplacental antibody transfer. Beyfortus (nirsevimab) is a long-acting monoclonal antibody administered directly to newborns and infants, typically those whose mothers did not receive the maternal vaccine or who were born shortly after maternal vaccination. Both agents target the prefusion conformation of the RSV fusion (F) protein to prevent viral entry into host cells. This combination approach is being evaluated in real-world effectiveness studies, such as those conducted by the Bogotá District Health Secretariat, to optimize protection against severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), hospitalizations, and mortality in infants under six months of age.
