Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rutin + ascorbic acid is a combination of the bioflavonoid rutin and the antioxidant vitamin C (ascorbic acid). It is currently being investigated by Ain Shams University in a Phase 2 clinical trial for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The combination is hypothesized to exert synergistic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, thereby reducing oxidative stress markers and hepatic steatosis. Rutin acts as a scavenger of free radicals and may inhibit lipid peroxidation, while ascorbic acid serves as a primary antioxidant that regenerates other antioxidants and directly neutralizes reactive oxygen species. The treatment is administered orally as a tablet.
