rVSVΔG-MARV (Angola) GP is a recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus-based vaccine candidate designed to prevent infection by the Marburg virus, specifically the Angola strain. The vaccine uses a live-attenuated VSV vector in which the gene for VSV glycoprotein is replaced with the gene encoding the glycoprotein of Marburg virus (GP). This enables expression of MARV GP on the surface of infected cells and induces robust humoral and cellular immune responses against Marburg virus. The platform is similar to that used for Ervebo, an approved Ebola Zaire vaccine. Preclinical studies have shown that a single intramuscular dose provides rapid and complete protection in nonhuman primates against lethal challenge with MARV Angola. The vaccine is being developed as both a prophylactic and post-exposure countermeasure for outbreaks and bioterrorism threats[1][2][3][4][5].
