S-(+)-BPAP (FPFS-1170) is a small molecule and the S-enantiomer of 1-(benzofuran-2-yl)-2-propylaminopentane (BPAP). It belongs to a unique pharmacological class known as monoaminergic activity enhancers (MAEs). Unlike traditional stimulants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors, S-(+)-BPAP selectively potentiates the impulse-propagation-mediated release of catecholamines (dopamine and norepinephrine) and serotonin in the brain without inducing neurotransmitter release in the absence of neuronal firing. Developed by Fujimoto Pharmaceutical Group, S-(+)-BPAP has been investigated in preclinical research for its potential neuroprotective and psychotropic effects in conditions such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, depression, and substance dependence. Although it shares the pharmacological profile of its more extensively studied R(-)-enantiomer (FPFS-1169), S-(+)-BPAP is generally characterized by lower potency in enhancing monoaminergic transmission and inducing anti-apoptotic factors like Bcl-2.
