s-amlodipine + telmisartan

S-amlodipine + telmisartan is a fixed-dose combination therapy used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It combines S-amlodipine, the active S-enantiomer of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine, with telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). S-amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle by targeting L-type calcium channels, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance. Telmisartan selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This dual mechanism provides synergistic blood pressure lowering. The combination is particularly evaluated in patients whose hypertension is inadequately controlled by calcium channel blocker monotherapy, as seen in clinical trials sponsored by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and supported by Hanlim Pharmaceutical.
